Summary
This is a high altitude pass with a circular route. In close proximity to a ring of the very high Himalayan peaks in the outer rim of the Nanda Devi sanctuary, some of them being – Panwalidwar, Nanda Devi, Tharkot, Maiktoli, Baljurie. This is a fairly unexplored route with dense Himalayan forests, high meadows to scenic small lakes and remote villages. While exploring this trek you are unlikely to meet other trekkers.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Reach Camp Purple by lunch. Overnight at the Wildrift campsite.
Day 2
Camp Purple to Badiakot (7 hours drive) – an amazing remote village in the higher Himalayas. Overnight at village homestay.
Day 3
Badiakot to Dholdunga (12 km) – a windy path through villages and forests. Camp out in the Dhol dhunga meadows.
Day 4
Dhol dhunga to Patharkuni (8 km) – and ascent through endless rolling meadow tops to a perched campsite overlooking the wide valley below.
Day 5
Patharkuni to Devkund via Kankata pass (10 km) (4678 m) – here we traverse across the Kankata ridge to amazing views of the Nanda Devi sanctuary from the Kankata pass. Camp in the fringes on the Devi Kund.
Day 6
Devi kund to Khatliya (7 km) – descent to the Sunderdhunga river basin to camp out in the meadows about the river.
Day 7
Khatliya to Jatoli – a demanding descent along the Sunderdhunga river and through beautiful forests to Jatoli village.
Day 8
Trek 7 km to cross the Pinder river to reach the roadhead at Khati. Drive from Khati to Almora.
