Dodital,
which lies at an altitude of 3024 m,
is one of the loveliest lakes in Garhwal.
and is surrounded by a thick forest
of oaks, conifers and rhododendrons.
A forest bungalow on the shores provides
relative comfort while the trout in
the lake provides meals as sumptuous
as any in the world's best restaurants.
The lake setting could not have been
better chosen.
The amazing variety of flora changing
from dense oaks and rhododendrons to
stately firs and deodars on most of
the trek bends around ridges and mountain
spots is as unique as it is rich. The
deodars and pines act as guardians for
the numerous wild flowers.
The area around Dodital is still full
of wildlife and species such as black
bears, snow leopards, musk deer and
a variety of the Himalayan pheasants
can often be seen as the animals come
to the lake shores to drink water early
in the mornings and late in the evenings.
Above Dodital is a ridge (one crosses
this on the route from Yamunotri). Going
up the left-hand side of the stream
affords the best view of the Bander
Punch.
