TREKS AND HIKES
Hadimba Ashram Trek
A 2 km steep climb to the Ashram situated
on top of the hill near a meadow where
one finds a large variety of trees planted
by the Babaji himself. Also offers a panoramic
birds-eye view of the Ram and Sita lakes.
Water fall Trek
A short walk from the camp down a dry
stream bed brings you to Subhash Dhara,
the only waterfall in Saattal. You may
have a refreshing bath or just lie around
lounging near the stream.
Tirchakhet Trek
A short trek to a quaint little Kumaoni
village taking you back to yesterday.
Untouched by modern civilisation, the
village has paved pathways and beautiful
houses in stone.
Biyun-tal Trek
This is a short familiarisation trek through
the general Saat tal area to the dry lake
bed of Biyun .
Night trek
A short post dinner hike into the wilderness
of the isolated Garur Tal with the help
of lanterns. The open chapel at the lake
side acts as a dramatic stage for star/moon-lit
presentations and talks.
LOCAL CULTURE AND INTERACTION
Visit to the local museum
Trek 3 kms through the Bhimtal valley
with villages and small farms to the Museum.
Dr. Mathpal's museum provides a good insight
into Kumaoni folklore and culture. Also
on display are a kaleidescope of water
colours on Kumaoni landscapes and ancient
rock-art.
Village based interactions
Carpentary: Learn to use various
carpentary tools to help the carpenter
make local village furniture and wood
carvings.
Ayurveda: Learn the ways and methods
of traditional herbs in the medicine.
Village Ayurveda expert shares her knowledge
with walks through the jungle.
Street Plays: Learn the art of
doing street plays (to create awareness)
from the village theatre group 'Bhiner'
which means "fire" in the local dialect.
Crafts making: Learn to make small
wooden souvenirs from small pieces of
dry wood or roots from a local craftsman.
WILDERNESS ACTIVITIES
Wildlife Tracking: An early morning
trek through the Sukhatal gorge guarantees
sighting of the barking deer or the Ghurar
( the mountain goat ).
Bird Spotting: Commonly found birds
in Saat-tal area are Magpies, Barbets,
Thrushes, Tits, Woodpeckers, Kingfishers,
Nightjars, Owls etc.
Field and Camp-fire Games: Various
sport facilities are available at the
camp like Volleyball, Badminton, Football
and Chess. Treasure hunt- find hidden
villages with the help of maps and clues.
