About the Trek
This is a circular trek which explores the region around the Namik Glacier. The trail passes through high mountain passes, Rhododendron and Oak forests, waterfalls, river stream and pristine villages with and ancient temples. These villages have a strong local culture are rich in heritage from the Indo-Tibetan trade route and particularly the two villages of Gogina and Namik. We stay with the local people in their homes or camp out on rolling meadows with eternal Himalayas in constant view. Trek ends at the town of Munsiyari.

Day 1 (15th Nov)
Drive from Kathgodam to reach Shaama (8 hrs). Breakfast and lunch en route. Hike 3 km along the ridge from the roadhead to Camp Shaama. Amazing views of the highest Himalayan peaks including Nandadevi.
Overnight at Shaama.
Day 2 (16th Nov)
Drive from Shaama to Gogina village and trek to Namik village (7 km). Gradual and steep incline, spectacular valleys and gorges along the route with some distant waterfalls visible. We enter to another district of Kumaon.
Gogina and Namik are old shepherd villages on the old Indo-Tibetan trade route. Stone houses with Rich wood carvings on doors and windows (fast disappearing as the new road has reached Gogina).
Evening – Reach the Namik village and stay in a village home or camp in the meadows over the village.
Day 3 (17th Nov)
Namik village to Thal Thok (11 km steep climb).
Slightly challenging trail, passes through thick Rhododendron and Oak forest and then beyond the tree line into the alpine meadows.
Set up camp on the meadows or stay at deserted house.
Day 4 (18th Nov)
Trek up ridges to Nanda Kund via Chaphua and Sudum Khan (16 km). Camp out at Nanda Kund.
Nanda Kund is a charming pond located at the foothills of the Nanda Devi Peak, in Uttaranchal. According to legends, a mythical character named Nanda took a bath in the lake and attained the status of a ‘Devi’ (goddess). This lake is hence considered as divine. Sukhram Cave, the famous site for trekking, is situated at a level below this lake. A climb of one hour from this cave leads to the divine lake. The climb is however very treacherous, which is the characteristics of the region. One of the notable peaks in the vicinity is the majestic Maiktoli Peak.
Day 5 (19th Nov)
Early morning exploration towards Nanda Kund / towards the glacier and head down to Thala (18 km downhill). Camp at the clearing of Kharsu and Rhododendron forest.
Day 6 (20th Nov)
Thala to Bala via Sur – Sundari pass (15 km downhill). This day we enter from Namik valley to Talla Jauhar valley. And transfer to RBC (1.5 hours drive).
Day 7 (21st Nov)
Drive down to Kathgodam to board overnight train.
