(Latitude 29° 31' N and longitude 79°
38' E; altitude 2300 m)
Mukteshwar offers a wide-open panorama
of the snow peaks - both the Nepalese
and Indian Himalayas. On a clear day,
Trishul, Nanda Devi, Chukhammba, Panchachuli
are visible. It lies along a ridge of
6 kms. Beautiful views of Almora town
can be seen towards the north and a profile
of the Ranikhet range in the north-west.
The highest point in Mukteshwar, the temple
(2345 m), has been in existence in one
form or another, since time immemorial.
The Indian Vetinarary Research Institute
forms the significant part of the sleepy
town of Mukteshwar, with its picturesque
buildings. Apple orchards abound. The
major crop is the potato. The majestic
cliffs at Mukteshwar offer a challenge
to those willing to explore their potential.
